Wednesday, July 18

Cleveland faculty to review doppler tissue echocardiography

Dr. Nikolaos Skubas, chairman of cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic, will give the Department of Anesthesiology Grand Rounds presentation, "Doppler Tissue Echocardiography," from 6:30-7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, in room LH122 of the medical education building.

Haemonetics specialist to cover hemostasis management

Natalie Hill Holloway, TEG clinical specialist for the Haemonetics Corporation, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds, "Hemostasis Management Utilizing T.E.G." from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing.

Physiology postdoc to discuss cardiac energetics, recovery

Dr. Kristin Edwards, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, will give the Department of Physiology and Biophysics seminar, "Uncoupling Protein 3 Deficiency Impairs Cardiac Energetics and Contractile Recovery after Ischemia/Reperfusion," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

School of Medicine to host health disparities conference

Clinical and translational researchers from UMMC, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Tulane University will host the Delta Clinical and Translational Science Health Disparities Conference from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, in the medical education building.

The event will include keynote speakers from each institution, a poster session and a networking session. There is no registration fee, and all UMMC faculty, staff, postdocs and students are invited.

Mass faculty to help understand HIV structural changes

Dr. Maria Duenas-Decamp, assistant professor of molecular medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, will present the Microbiology and Immunology Seminar, "Understanding the Structural Changes in HIV-1 Trimer and Their Effects on Tropism and Vaccine Development," at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, in room 4A.
